About Katie
Hi, my name is Katie (she/her/hers). I am a bilingual (Chinese Cantonese) mental health counselor. I obtained my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the City University of New York, College of Staten Island and my undergraduate studies in psychology from the City University of New York, Hunter College.
My approach is shaped by the intersectionality of my identities. As an Asian American, first-generation college graduate, and the eldest daughter of immigrant parents, I deeply empathize with difficulties in balancing family, cultural expectations, and personal identity. I employ culturally attuned and trauma informed care using empirically based tools tailored to each individual. My work draws from cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, and mindfulness. At the core, I am person-centered and grounded in the humanistic model.
Background
I have worked with individuals spanning from young adolescence to end of life age groups, in outpatient settings, and community-based organizations. My clinical expertise includes supporting individuals who struggle with multiple co-occurring chronic mental health illnesses, grief and loss, relationships, self-esteem, panic, depression, anxiety, obsessions and compulsions, attention-deficit/hyperactivity, and neurological diagnoses. As a care manager, I have also met with minority and historically marginalized communities, as well as patients living with multiple chronic health illnesses.
When I’m not in session, you can find me cycling between my interests of painting, reading, baking, and supporting small businesses in the city.
Telehealth and In Person Sessions
I offer both telehealth and in-person sessions. It is my goal to foster a safe space where you are understood and supported. Beginning your therapeutic journey can be a meaningful step towards healing. I invite you to reach out to take that next step when you are ready.
